death of a computer or blessing of humility?

this week a friend called me on the phone one evening just asking for a bit of computer advice. as i told him how i thought he could fix the problem he made a comment about how little he knew about computers. i gave a knowing laugh, trying to sound humble. he then went on to tell me over the phone that, when he rebooted after doing the change that i told him to do that his computer screen was just black...
sounds like no big deal, right? well, how do you change the settings back to normal if you can't see anything? exactly. you can't.

as i spent the better part of the next few nights wrestling with his computer trying to coax it into changing itself back into a nice computer, i began to ponder things like: my ego, my temper or the ease in which i lose it, frustration, the meaning of the universe and our seeming insignificance.

oh, by the way, there were important documents on his computer like his lesson plans for a class he teaches and a book he is writing (alright he had his book backed up but it makes for a more dramatic story). pressure squeezing in all around...can't feel hands...life slipping away.

but, as most stories like this are, the situation was in God's hands and the computer just decided to start playing nice somewhere around day 3 or 4 (probably due to my 5 year old sons prayers that God would help daddy fix that computer).

his computer is back to normal now, but i think my hidden ego was beat up a little. good! 'ego' is just a waffle type way of saying 'pride' so good riddance...but just for the record, i will not be dispensing any computer advice to anyone in the future including myself.
